Halloween 2012

I know it's long past Halloween, but can I have more post? I feel like I ran out of time and didn't do the holiday (?) justice. I still have to redress my kids in their costumes because I didn't get a very good shot of them all dressed up!

Here are a couple of ideas of mine and some that some of my friends managed to get done for Halloween - good work!

Food from a Friend's Party for the kiddies:
Zombie bread (stuffed with spinach dip pizza dough)
Veggie Skeleton (modified by a Dad at the party, can you spot the new addition?)
Our front step & the extent of my decorations but I like it (dollar store reflectors)
A friend's front door in Edmonton (so good, right?)

A craft I brought to a play date for kids ages 2 - 5 1/2
Cut egg carton cups into singles
Hole punch 4 holes on each side
Cut pipe cleaners in half
Paint egg carton cups black in advance if you don't want extra mess and to save time
(Spray paint doesn't work, I tried, use acrylic)
(The girls wanted to paint theirs pink and purple anyway, so you could skip this step)
Let kids string legs through spiders
Glue on google eyes, fangs, bows, glitter, whatever
(You can see the girls painted over the eyes, so maybe paint first,
but then they have to dry in between glueing - hairdryer?)
Get the kids to repeat this phrase, "You get what you get and you don't get upset!",
with regard to colour of spider legs, I separated them before hand into sets of 8
Place in the centre of table over little gourds and around a halloween candle/vase filled with candy

Now, I better get upstairs. My husband took the day off today and I'm pretty sure he didn't plan on me updating my blog with Halloween fun while he parented along all morning. Christmas posts coming soon! xo

Halloweeeen!

I made these chocolate witch hats last year - ice cream cones dipped in melted chocolate, 2 gummie works stuck inside the hat and stuck to chocolate cookies with one Smartie stuck to the middle of the brim. Cutie-cute, right?

They were tasty and a big hit with the kiddies. As for this year? I bought the biggest box of those tiny chocolate bars I could find. We all got the flue, my motivation went out the window along with my ambition to craft it up this year. Eh, there's always Christmas.

As for this year, the whole month of October has almost passed and I haven't written a single Halloween post?! Good gracious. Well, better late than never! Here are some of the cute things I've come across online for Halloween this year:

Hope you have a super duper Happy Halloween and you get your paws on some good candy!

Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Any of these kids costumes could be upsized to = adult (besides the last one...reverse the logic...perhaps minus the rod for safety?!)

More pumpkin decorating ideas!

Here are a bunch (40 to be exact) pumpkin decorating ideas from the Country Living website. There are some really creative ones I like. Skeleton Hands (pictured below), Great Balls of Fire, Pumpkin City and Pumpkin Tower are some of my favorites. Enjoy browsing and happy pumpkin-ing!

P.S. The great thing about this website is that free printable templates are included (could be used elsewhere, not just for pumpkins)!

Painted Pumpkins

Just because you're not into carving pumpkins doesn't mean you have to miss out on all the fun of displaying festive pumpkins on your front step or in the window at halloween. I love these painted pumpkins. They are festive and cool. If the idea of painting an entire big pumpkin white turns you off, you could go always go for few smaller gourds (less to paint) or simply purchase a pumpkin that isn't orange (have you seen those black and white pumpkins?)...

So chic. From here.

Halloween is coming!

If you're not into carving pumpkins a bunch of these would look good in the front window for Halloween. They remind me of spider webs. From here.

Snickers Salad (?)

A tasty use for leftover chocolate bars after halloween - Snicker Salad from here. Really? I asked myself the same question...but it looks tasty and it's got fruit in it so it's health-eee right?

Mmmmm, salad!

sHoUt OuT - Lil & Yacine

I Dream In Colour's First Official sHoUt OuT goes to:

Lil and her two and a half year old son Yacine for their
BOOtiful 3-Tiered Halloween
Pumpkin Ball Cake!

Not only did Lil complete the baking at midnight, stirring the batter by hand so she wouldn't wake her infant and toddler, she waited until the next morning to finish so Yacine could help her decorate the cake. If it tastes as good as it looks Lil, your family must be in heaven - great work!

Big-Eyed Alien Cupcakes!

My husband took our daughter his folks place so I could "tidy up and prepare for tonight" (we're having friends over for dinner and pumpkin carving)... SeCrEt - the TV is on TLC, I've been facebooking & now blogging and next is a long hot shower, then I'll think about power cleaning (!)

I'm proud to say I gave Delish.com's Big-Eyed Alien Cupcake recipe a try...from here (actually it's Martha Stewart's recipe but she gets enough props). The recipe says to use a thin layer of meringue buttercream, instead, I used a thick layer of plain buttercream b/c that's how I roll.

Their food-photographed end result:

And: Bahh Ba Ba BaHHH!! Our results:

Side note: I had "help" from our ambitious 2 year old and we had a blast as I practiced my zen mantras - ummmmm, sprinnnklessss allll over the flloooor can be swwweeped uppppp....
Did the multi colour batter dump from this post
12 little aliens with chocolate blood shot eyes!

This is Marvin. His hours are numbered.

If you bake something email me a photo, I'd love to post it! Take care and have a great weekend!
